We need to get a few replacements for the Baseball Card series at our library- they have been loved to tatters, typically by 8 to 12 year old boys as you mentioned. A fun recent title to pair with this series is "Swindle" by Gordon Korman (2008). A boy finds a rare, vaulable baseball card in an abandoned house only to be cheated out of it by an unscrupulous antiques dealer.
